ok so i have a question about the docs at the OB that may be kind of confusing.. im 28 weeks and have been going there since i found out i was preggo. and i have always seen Mcculloch(who i dont care for much) but i just now found out that i guess she isnt actually a DOC. i had some complications and was told i needed to call her and when i asked for DOC mcculloch then said oh you must mean MRS mcculloch. so now im wondering like , "what she is" if she isnt a real doc? and who will be delivering my baby? anyone know anything about it?( im of course going to ask at my next visit, but i thought maybe someone else on here might be seeing her too? and know something?)

Sarah aka Tippy --- 15 years ago -

Sometimes they give you a nurse midwife rather than a doc. Might be the case?

Mrs.Mommy --- 15 years ago -

If i remember correctly,i think i had her too.. she is a nurse practitioner. which is.. A registered nurse who went to special training and can do must things a physician can do. Im pretty sure that they have to have a masters degree..

cortney*S --- 15 years ago -

maybe? so does that mean someone else will be delivering the baby?

Alexis --- 15 years ago -

It is a midwife. They normally give you a midwife first and once you have complications way over their head such as a c-section they will send you to a different person... An actual doctor.

Mrs.Mommy --- 15 years ago -

Im 29 weeks too, and when i saw her for the first 20 weeks i loved her, (its its the same person im thinking of) And now im in PA... i have a midwife... I was told by my current office, that i will have a midwife deleiver me as long has i dont have any problems, baby is healthy and its a normal deleiver. If i were to have problems a doctor would be delievering me. IMO.. i feel like a midwife/NP is fine to deleiver me, because ill BE in a hospital, if anything goes wrong.. there will be doctors there.

I love google... Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM): This is an individual who is educated in the two disciplines of nursing and midwifery, and who possesses evidence of certification according to the requirements of the American College of Nurse Midwives. Nurse midwifery practice is the independent management of women's healthcare, focusing particularly on pregnancy, childbirth, the postpartum period, care of the newborn, family planning, and gynecological needs of women. CNM practice is in accordance with the standards for the practice of Nurse Midwifery, as defined by ACNM. Shirley McCulloch, CNM I am board certified nurse midwife, and graduated with Master's Degree from University of Florida in 1985. In 2004, I graduated from George Washington University with Post Master's Degree as Family Nurse Practitioner. I have lived in FL, DC area, NC, NM, NV, Beijing, China, & Saudi Arabia before coming to Camp Pendleton. My goal is to provide quality healthcare, so that all needs & expectations are met. I am mother of one, and grandmother of two. http://cpen.med.navy.mil/nhcp.cfm?xid=wap&f=obgyn&p=staff

No, she won't be delivery the baby, a Dr. will.

cortney*S --- 15 years ago -

oh,ok i guess that makes sence..thanks.. this is my first and im not even that familar with the way the naval hosp does stuff bc ive always used the off base clinic bc its closer to my apt..

MOMx4 ¾ --- 15 years ago -

Midwives rock! I had a midwife deliver my 4th kiddo, and he (yes he lol) was the BEST. The only one that I knew was a "Doctor" for sure was with my first and she was stupid. The rest have all gone by their military rank so I couldn't tell you whether they were Doctors, Nurse Practitioners, or mechanics lmao They were all amazing, except the first chick who was actually CALLED doctor :) I wouldn't worry too much about it. They won't let a cook deliver the baby ;)

CPPrincess(Mystic chocolate) --- 15 years ago -

Midwives rock AMEN!!

staci --- 15 years ago -

just so you know you can always request a different doctor. you are not required to go to the one they send you to first. Hope everything turns out well. Good luck.

cortney*S --- 15 years ago -

Im 29 weeks too, and when i saw her for the first 20 weeks i loved her, (its its the same person im thinking of) And now im in PA... i have a midwife... im not too crazy about her.lol. just bc ive had a few problems and she hasnt cared at all.. i had alot of bleeding during xmas and even had to go to the ER twice and the labor and delivery told me that as soon as i get back to my OB they need to check my kindeys and liver bc they thought i had kidneystones and all mcculloch said was oh well maybe we could do a urine sample? and then she didnt even do that..so idk.. she doesnt set too well with me..

Mrs.Mommy --- 15 years ago -

Hmmm im pretty sure thats who i saw the first 20 weeks.. and i loved her. Hopefully she treats you better if your stuck with her lol. I posted a website with her and what she is.

cortney*S --- 15 years ago -

Hmmm im pretty sure thats who i saw the first 20 weeks.. and i loved her. Hopefully she treats you better if your stuck with her lol. hopefully.. she just always kinda seems "off" to me..i not sure how to explain it, like she never really all the way answers my questions i have. and she doesnt seem to want to stick around and talk to me about the stuff i want to talk about.. like she will ask if i have any other questions while she is slipping out the door! and then i will be like ummm yea, i was kinda in the middle of asking them..

Mrs.Mommy --- 15 years ago -

Well i think you should feel comforable with your ob.. ask to get switched to another one.. you dont have to see her...

cortney*S --- 15 years ago -

i may end up just doing that.

Mrs.Mommy --- 15 years ago -

Thats what id do if i didnt like the doctor i was being seen by. I just looked up my papers (it was bothering me) I did see mccullouch or however u spell it

Donnye oregonbound bye camp p --- 15 years ago -

Cortney, she is my "dr" too. When i first met her i asked her flat out what she was and she said she is a midwife/ nurse practitioner. I also found out around 28 weeks (im 36 now) That she will not be in the room during delivery because she is not scheduled to do deliveries, but she says that there will be a midwife there. I agree when you say there is something off about her. Personally i think she has no people skills at all. It took her until my 33week appointment to actually remember how to say my name correctly.

cortney*S --- 15 years ago -

hmm.. well i dont know why she is weird with me.lol..

cortney*S --- 15 years ago -

donnye--- well im glad im not the only one who thinks she is kinda off..haha.. my husband didnt mind her at first and then this last docs visit she made him mad and now he says he sees way im not crazy about her..lol..

Donnye oregonbound bye camp p --- 15 years ago -

hmm.. well i dont know why she is weird with me.lol.. she is weird with every one. A friend of mine had her as well and opted to drive all the way to Balboa to deliver because she didnt even want to think about her being there if she was. Another thing ive noticed that she likes to do is comment on weight, how you should ONLY gain bout 25lbs, im sry but im comfortable with gaining up to 40 if i do cause i know i can lose it. Trust me Cortney you arnt the only one who has problems with here lol. Oh and to add, i asked her to help me with my birth plan and she agreed but while i was going over the questions i had about some of the options she kept saying that it would just be best for me to just take classes...

cortney*S --- 15 years ago -

im not sure if she has comment on weight with me? the nurse always weighs me.. but i do remeber someone saying at first to make sure i dont gain over 30 pounds i think it was? and i thought to mayself, so if i hit 30 pounds and still have 2 months to go do they expect me to just starve myself?lol.. but i havent been to worried about gaining weight, i just make sure not to over eat..lol..

cortney*S --- 15 years ago -

yea i usually try not to even ask her about things much bc i feel like she doesnt care.. or she just doesnt want to listen..

Donnye oregonbound bye camp p --- 15 years ago -

ol.. but i havent been to worried about gaining weight, i just make sure not to over eat..lol.. lol well over eating isnt a problem for me its the lack of extraneous exercise that has me gaining more than just a small amount (ive always had a problem with my weight and have been able to control it by working out everyday). People gain weight differently and her telling me that i could only gain 25 was like um what... Again im not too please with her, and im happy she wont be in the delivery room. As long as my husband is there and a Dr im fine lol

Donnye oregonbound bye camp p --- 15 years ago -

yea i usually try not to even ask her about things much bc i feel like she doesnt care.. or she just doesnt want to listen.. My husband was just shocked about the whole birth plan thing. I mean all i wanted was to know what some of the stuff meant I dont really want to or feel the need to go to classes. Her telling me that she would help me go over it but then just telling to take the classes instead was like ummm ok and you are getting paid for what exactly?...

cortney*S --- 15 years ago -

yea alot of ppl ive talked to gained like 60 pounds!! which for me if i gained that much i would cry.lol. but if i gain more than 25 pounds im sure i will be just fine! lol.. yea ive been worried about if SHE would be delivering or not bc i wouldnt feel comfortable with her doing it..
