Dr. Carpenter is officially the worst pediatrician in the world. This past Monday my daughter had an appointment with her to get her 2 month shots. Well DD was sick and was vomiting, and I tell Dr. Carpenter that DD hasn't really been eating and that she is vomiting and has a cough. Dr. Carpenter tells me that DD has a stomach virus and not to feed her for 48 hours just give her pedialyte for the next 48 hours. UMMMMMM huh? Tuesday night DD is coughing and wheezing so DH and I take DD to the ER they tell me that DD has pneumonia NOT a stomach virus.

Pamper your inner Chef --- 210 days ago -

Dr. Casement is awesome. My best friend has been using her for 3 years and I just started my daughter with her.

JMudsy --- 210 days ago -

We use Dr. Carpenter as well and have been having some issues. I've only stayed there because of her nurse, Jeanne Marie. I think we may be switching to Dr. Garg though.

Madison was vomiting a few weeks ago and we took her in afraid she was getting dehydrated. When they took her vitals her O2 sats were low. They did a chest x-ray and she had pneumonia. Apprently 10% of kids with pneumonia have a different viral symptom other than coughing. My daughter never coughed one time. I'm just saying things are not always as they seem...

Pneumonia in children is very hard for docs to diagnose 100% becuase children especially young children can not cough up a big enough loogy (sp) for them to test for the virus or infection. They can do X-rays and say well it looks like it could be the start or looks like it is so we will start them on such and such follow up in a week or bring back to ER if things get worse. We did this 2 times. And if your child has pneumonia and then spikes a fever they more than likely contracted a stomach virus AFTER they got pneumonia and it is hard for a doc to diagnose them with pneumonia when there is vomiting and other symptoms. Just saying.... I have been in 2 times with my oldest for pneumonia and the second time she had what they thought was H1N1.... and then got a Roto-virus after being discharged from the hospital.

Another doc to avoid on base is Dr. Fonseco (sp?) she's a b!tch. I saw her once and she will never touch my kid again.

♥*Jodine*♥ --- 210 days ago -

Apprently 10% of kids with pneumonia have a different viral symptom other than coughing. I understand that but all she did was touch DD's stomach and say its a stomach virus, and to not feed her for 48 hours. I can't not feed my child, to me that is child abuse.

That's what I was trying to tell the OP...that maybe it wasn't a mistake. I can't not feed my child, to me that is child abuse. Fluids are most important. You get the child to keep fluids down and THEN worry about solids.

If your in San Clemente, or San Onofre area...an AMAZING dr. is Dr. Petty with Seaview Pediatrics off of Pico! She is the greatest; helped me realize my little one had a bronchial infection, when the E.R. just said she was "just a wheezy kid". She even gave me a prescription for Lidocaine, so when we pierced baby's ears it would numb them. SHe is super sweet and caring, and makes sure she answers any questions!

My DD is only 2 months old she isn't on solids. Dr. Carpenter told me to only give DD pedialyte for 48 hours, no breast milk or formula. Pedialyte isn't nearly as tough on the stomach as breast milk and formula. They told me with my son to give him 2 oz of pedialyte and if he kept that down try 1 oz of breastmilk. I hope your little one gets better soon.

♥*Jodine*♥ --- 210 days ago -

I hope your little one gets better soon. Thank you she is acting better. I am also planning on changing Dr.'s which I think will help. Hopefully

Dr Bob at the Sears Family Practice is beyond phenominal, we are in Oceanside but it is totally worth the drive to capistrano beach.

I hope your little one gets better soon. They told me not to give my youngest any dairy either when she had a stomach thing going on becuase dairy is harder to digest than other liquids. keeping your cild hydrated is more important than keeping their tummy full.... and if they have a stomach bug they probably wont eat anyway and if they do it will probably just come back up. Better to keep them on liquids and then try some broth or something if they are old enough to eat or noodles or something.
