Well this morning I got the motivation to change out the crib into a day bed for my 20month old son. I'm going to just consider this a test run and see how he does. Anyone have any advice or tips when trying to get your kiddo to sleep in a regular bed instead of their crib.

when i finally put my daughter in her big girl bed, she did awesome! the only problem i had was her falling out of bed the first few nights, so i got one of the attachable bed rails, you can get them at wal mart or babies r us. I kept it on there for about 2 months and then took it off, with no problems.

good luck I was forced to do this at a young age because my son learned to climb out of his crib.. He slept in his crib just fine the moment I gave him a big boy bed it was so hard to even get him to lay in it.. every time he gets out just stick to ur guns and keep putting him back in the first couple of nights are going to be very trying.

Oh boy. We'll see how he does later today when he goes down for a nap.

My kids have been in a big boy bed since 13 months old, I used the attachable bed rail, my oldest used it till he was 19 months and my youngest is only 14 months so he still uses it. They dont have a problem with it what so ever. The only problem I had was them knocking at the door at 12am, or playing with their toys when they are suppose to sleep. Good luck.

Maddix was the same way as Ambi's son... He crawled outta his crib at an early age, so we put him in a big boy bed when he was 15 months.. He would get out during the night, but we stuck to our gun and kept putting him back.. He cried, but finally got the point that he needs to stay in it.. 2 months later, he sleeps all night in it.. Good Luck Boss Lady!

My son isn't climbing out of his crib, but I feel it's the right time to get him to start sleeping in a bed. I never had to deal with PCSing anywhere much less with a toddler. I wouldn't know what to tell you, All Abouts. I guess just go with your instinct.

I say get him started.. That move is going to be weird for him and you don't want to make it harder by randomly taking it away..

Good point Ambi.

We are still working on this with my 2 year old. We moved him out of his crib about a month ago and most nights it is still a fight to make him stay in his room. We do the nanny 911 way where we just pick him back up and don't say anything. Lay him back down and close the door or some nights we just sit at his door looking away from him.

I'm gonna be doing the same thing soon boss, if you figure out a good way to do it let me know!!!!

I think I will, sucks because I will have to do him and his sister who is 10 months younger at the same time, since they share a room.. I do plan to use the child lock on the door do, hope wont be to much of a transition for them since, now both walk to their cribs at bed time , lay down, lights totally out and close doors..

My daughter did really well! She loved her big bed when we changed her! :))) Im choosing to think positively for you and say he'll do well!

HappyWifeHappyLife*S* --- 184 days ago -

We changed our daughter's crib over to her daybed when she was about 18 months. The movers screwed up her crib so I just changed it over. She fell out a couple nights but I had a ton of pillows down so she was fine. She loves it. She goes to her bed on her own and takes a nap.

Well last night was a success!!!!! Once we put him down for bed he stayed in it and we never once heard him get up. He stayed asleep until about 7, which is when he normally wakes anyway. Hopefully tonight he will continue to do the same.
