I honestly hope this childs parent is on here and reads this before their child is hurt or killed! She came inches from it today. I was on my way to pick up my son on the road that North Terrance is on. It wasn't even by the school but closer to the baseball fields. The car ahead of me was doing the speed limit following all the rules. A little girl with a small pink bike (I believe) and a pink/peach helmet (again I think it happened fast), looking to be around first grade (honestly looked smaller then that) rode right off the sidewalk into the street infront of a serious of parked cars along the road. I could see her because I was further back but the car ahead of me had no chance of seeing her because the parked cars. She pulled right out infront of him and he slammed on his brakes. God was on her side because a few seconds differenece and she would have gotten hit. It was text book all those saftey movies of don't do's. First she shouldn't be going into the middle of the road. I guess she was trying to go around the traffic on the sidewalk. She wasn't crossing the road. Second she needs to be taught that if you are pulling out into the road infront of parked cars it is difficult for oncoming traffic to see you. Especially when your so much smaller then a car. The Car hides you to oncoming traffic until your out infront of it. Sorry for this length.

Holly --- 184 days ago -

wow! I dont know how many times Ive went to go get my daughter from school and had a child run in front of my car without looking!, its scary! Im glad the girl wasnt hit.

Toni --- 184 days ago -

Second she needs to be taught that if you are pulling out into the road infront of parked cars it is difficult for oncoming traffic to see you. This is the hardest concept for kids to grasp. They just do not get how dangerous it is to pull out from behind parked cars. When we get out of our car, first thing I tell them is up against the car. And then we walk out slowly as a group. I am telling them to look both ways. But my 5 year old, I still have to grab her by her shirt collar or hair sometimes to keep her from just darting out. Soooooo dang scary for a parent, and I can't even think how freaked out that driver was today.

Jessica Ree ™ --- 184 days ago -

serious of parked cars series? Thank goodness that person was doing the speed limit =(

All Abouts --- 184 days ago -

Thank goodness that person was doing the speed limit =( Speed limit I believe is 10 or 15 in my street.. I do 5, almost stooping since I know this a street with kids and takes a long time for the kids to get the concept of cars and street. And I am particular aware of the cars parked ., drive ways, and corners

Charlie'sWife --- 184 days ago -

When we get out of our car, first thing I tell them is up against the car. And then we walk out slowly as a group. I do this too. We have what I call "parking lot rules" which apply to anywhere that cars are moving, if you are next to the car touch the gas tank door or a door handle and ALWAYS hold an adults hand, look both ways and never assume that others know where you are (i.e. behind a car or walking out into the road). Glad that the person driving was paying attetion and obeying the speed limits.

gabriella --- 183 days ago -

oh my gosh this happened to me also. 3 boys going down the middle of the street basically playing chicken. one boy ,looking at the ground and I could see he was going to hit my car. I was so scared I just stopped my car that way he could hit me at a complete stop. I figuered that even if I was going 1 mile an hour and he hit me somehow his parents would try to blame me so I stopped my car. then I honked and he looked up and swerved. I was so shooken up I called the school and said please put out a notice for the parents to teach the children the rules of the road. going between parked cars ect... my little 7 year old constantly darts out in the street without looking. cars have honked at him also. that's why I drive him but what can we do something needs to be done. concerned also.

magen --- 183 days ago -

I drive wire mountain road all the time and there are kids that like to walk on the side of the road even though there is a trail like 3 yards away. During the day its not so bad because you can see them, even if they are not paying any attention. At night though, they ride bikes and walk along the road, sometimes in the road. You CANNOT see them until you are right about on them. There are no lights on that strip and adults shouldn't even be walking there w/o a reflector belt, let alone kids. PLEASE WEAR A REFLECTOR BELT AT NIGHT ON WIRE MOUNTAIN ROAD. Also dogs are hard to see too. I had a dumb kid play chicken with me once too. I laid on the horn, turned my brights on and slowed down. Why parents let their kids walk around at night is beyond me. My dad, if he would let me stay out, would drive around to check up on me to make sure I wasn't doing something stupid.

I thought kids have to be AT LEAST in 3rd grade to ride their bikes to school?? At least that's how it is in Santa Margarita.

I was SO about to pull over last week and scream at these boys who were skate boarding down Wire Mt Rd and were doing "tricks." Their back was to me and had no clue I was coming and all of a sudden one of them was out in the middle of the road bc he fell over. I was furious. I was further back behind him, but still, had he done that when I was closer, I could have hit him. Parents seriously do need to talk to their kids, not just the young ones, but the older ones who think they are invincible too.

You have got to be kidding! Isn't there a rule to how old a child can be to ride a bike to school? Why are parents not getting out of bed to take their children to school? What time does the elementary school start? Unless I live right next door to the school, I will be getting up, load the children in the vehicle, and take my children to school. I hope her parents give her a talkin and also the parents need to get off thier butts and start being doing the right thing.

Isn't there a rule to how old a child can be to ride a bike to school? I hope so!! Well for what I have read, I do not see that there is.

CPPrincess(Mystic chocolate) --- 183 days ago -

, I do not see that there is. Or people really dont care...they need rules to determine their judgement...some should be common sense IMO

Cowgirl_Riddle --- 183 days ago -

Or people really dont care...they need rules to determine their judgement...some should be common sense IMO I totally agree with you. We find out our house address on Friday and I am so excited! We will be there on the 24th. YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PeachyKeene --- 183 days ago -

I believe it is second grade. They cannot walk to school alone unless they are in the second grade. That was per my old neighbor. Her son was in 1st grade and always wanted to walk to school alone. Granted we lived so close to the school, she would let him every so often, but she would walk farther behind him to let him feel like he was walking alone.

Cowgirl_Riddle --- 183 days ago -

What times does the elementary school start and end?

test
PeachyKeene --- 183 days ago -

I want to stay it starts 730-8am-ish and it gets out around 3ish. The kindergardeners get half days and they switch out around 1130am-12pm. I dont know the exact times.

Cowgirl_Riddle --- 183 days ago -

kindergardeners get half days You have got to be kidding me! Here they are in school for the same time as the 1st to 5th graders. Well this just about stinks.

KayCee --- 183 days ago -

You have got to be kidding me! Here they are in school for the same time as the 1st to 5th graders. Well this just about stinks. i wish it was like that here in colorado. my son seriously goes for 2 hours amd 40 minutes. if i wanted him in full day i would have to pay 300 bucks a month! its bull! but about the little girl riding her bike. i have decided i will not let my kid walk to school by himself for many more years. i see stuff like this everyday. i do let him ride his bike sometimes. but he stops at every corner and waits for me. he is also the only kid that wears a helmet around here

PeachyKeene --- 183 days ago -

It blows my mind how much time kids get off for school out here. Presidents day they get a WHOLE WEEK!? seriously?! I got a DAY. And they have one half day a week.. It's insane. I dont see how these kids learn anything!

All Abouts --- 183 days ago -

San Onofre School, only Kindergarten are mandate to be pick up by a adult, anyone else dont can go home alone.. and notice only pick up.. how they get to school is up to the parents

B-Zombie --- 183 days ago -

My sister was 8 years old when she ran out into the street after a ball.. she was hit by a suburban doing 35.. she was killed on impact.. the man driving was able to give her cpr.. she died two more times on the operation tabel... she had so much damage done to her young body.. and was in a coma for over a month.. but she lived and spent the next 5 years in rehab.. she is now 21 but has the mental capacity of a 12 year old.. so i know first hand how quickly this can happen... i am very parrinoed when my kids are playing outside.. my son is nine and he always gives me the uuugghh sound when i make him hold my hand to walk in a parking lot or cross the street... but i do it so i know he is safe.... he thinks he is big, but the bottom line is kids more often then not dont think about geting hit by a car...

KayCee --- 183 days ago -

My sister was 8 years old when she ran out into the street after a ball.. thats is really sad!but happens alot. my older brother was hit by a car on a country road around that age. he didnt have life threatening injuries but he was in a half body cast for along time.

Pasha --- 183 days ago -

OMG...B-Zombie, that's so horrible. I'm sorry to hear that =( Whenever I'm going thorugh a school zone I make it a point to go like 5 mph.....kids run out in the street all the time. I don't care if the people behind me get pissed....they can get over it.

KayCee --- 183 days ago -

Whenever I'm going thorugh a school zone I make it a point to go like 5 mph i drive slow when ever im in any housing area. my son has a classmate that runs wild around here.. he has shown up at my door after dark before. i let him hang for a few minutes and then asked when he should go home..? he says whenever he wants. so the last time he was here i walked him home and knocked on the door. all the dad could say was hes allowed to be out until 730.. if my son was not playing near my house i would freak out! hes not allowed to play outside after dark... this kids parents dont give a ish and it makes me sooo mad!

*Mama~times~3 --- 183 days ago -

when I was younger, 10yrs old...my best friend whom was deaf, she and I were playing outside with a group of other kids from the neighborhood....she randomly darted in to the street...we were trying to yell for her that a car was coming, she was hit--killed. I can remember it like yesterday. it's scary when driving anywhere there is high volume of pedistrians...

I just wanted to write this again to bring attention: WEAR A REFLECTIVE BELT ON WIRE MOUNTAIN ROAD AT NIGHT ADULTS AND CHILDREN. I don't know how many times I have passed a family, a couple or kids walking on the side of the road and not noticed them until I was right on them. I have seen families with their baby stroller walking in the dark without reflective gear. Is it dorky to wear the belts or something? Please wear them!! We can not see you!
