Amelia- Awesome i'm so excited for it! I tried to take it this summer but it filled up so quick! I can't wait.

Perfectly Imperfect --- 14 years ago -

I think I might just apply! Thanks for the info!! I have been trying to get into Nursing school for 2 years now and am ready to take a break, or find a new route in!

grantsmommy --- 14 years ago -

yea, so do you know if we get our uniforms before the first day or can we show up just with our physical forms, and social security card, and BLS certification card? Then we buy the uniforms where they tell us? Blackboard hasn't registered the course to view, so i guess i can email the professor...

M&M Bowtique Bows & Scentsy --- 14 years ago -

I was wondering the same thing. A friend of mine said you just go the first day and you order the stuff in class (the uniforms and stethescope)The uniform is white scrubs though and white shoes. All we bring is the psysical form, TBS skin test paper, soc card, and BLS card. :)

grantsmommy --- 14 years ago -

do you have to buy the uniform they have or can you buy ones cause my mom is a nurse and has a million scrubs. i know she has plain white ones

M&M Bowtique Bows & Scentsy --- 14 years ago -

I *think* you have to buy the school ones, but im not really sure.. I wish they'd post more info about it already!

Elizabeth --- 14 years ago -

Perfectly Imperfect --- 14 years ago -

Here is the info from Mira Costa's website :)

Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
The Certified Nursing Assistant Program at MiraCosta College has been in place since 1987. Since then, hundreds of students have successfully completed the program, qualifying them for certificates from the California Department of Health Services.

Graduates of the program have found entry-level employment in acute care and long-term care facilities, in home care, and in clinics. Many graduates continue their education and increase their career potential by enrolling in Licensed Vocational Nursing and Registered Nursing programs.

Course Information

Participants must enroll in Nursing 160 as students of MiraCosta College in order to be admitted into the program. There is a limit of 24 students per class; admittance is on a first-enrolled, first-admitted basis.

Class prerequisite is completion of English 803 or ESL 803 or qualify through the English Assessment or approved equivalent AND submission of a current American Heart Association Health Care Provider CPR card with AED. The results of a physical examination, including a tuberculosis skin test will be required the first day of class.

The course work can be completed during an accelerated eight-week program offered twice a semester or a six-week program offered once in the summer. Classes meet 23 hours each week during the day (32 hours a week in the summer). Seventy-nine hours are spent studying theory; in addition, 105 hours are devoted to clinical training at local long-term care facilities.

On the average, a California resident in the CNA Program spends approximately $550 for expenses. This includes tuition, the cost of books, uniforms, physical exam, tuberculosis skin test, CPR card and State exam. **The tuition is subject to change due to legislative action.**

Home Health Aide
The Home Health Aide Program is an opportunity for certified nursing assistants to expand their employability. Offered once a year in the spring, this short program meets six hours once a week for eight weeks. Designed to meet state requirements for the Home Health Aide Certificate, the program includes a review of personal care services, nutritional needs of home care patients, and medical and social needs of clients. Graduates are eligible for a variety of jobs, including private-duty nursing, hospice work, or employment at home-health agencies.

Prerequisite is an active California CNA license or successful completion of a California CNA course within the last six months. Tuition is $52 plus the cost of books, physical exam, and tuberculosis skin test.
