So my husband put in for re-enlistment a couple months ago, which still has not been approved yet. But yesterday he recieved orders to pcs in august. His EAS is in september. Why would they move us a month before his EAS when his re-enlistment has not been approved yet?

Jack Hass --- 14 years ago -

If he has reenlisted before, then yes they will do this because he's a "careerist" and expected to reenlist. Reenlistments shouldn't take months anyway unless the Career Planner is sitting on it or there were NJP's or Medical Holds involved. It should take a few weeks at the most.

well he checked after recieving these orders yesterday and turns out his re-enlistment package was with the wrong people and had to be sent to the right ones...but this is his first re-enlistment which is why we are unsure if it will even be approved because of the retention rate...

He just has jacked up paperwork. That's all.

we are in the same boat. Hubby is deployed and put in his papers a month and half ago. Admin had some wrong info and he had to resubmit it. He keeps checking everyday but the guy who is supposed to do the last of it, is "just sitting on it". Its frusterating. Cause my husband has nothing against him and got all great rec's from his command. This is my hubby's 2nd re-enlistment.

yeah my hubs has nothing against him either....i hate waiting...im horrible at being patient :)

Military.com said for budget cuts they are cutting army and Marines by 70k.

marine*wives*rock! --- 14 years ago -

Im baffled though...why are they wanting to cut Marines, yet still enlisting 1st timers? My brother inlaw just swore in last week and has a boot camp date already! I say keep the Marines we already have who are trained and have experience, who want to re-enlist. And just not enlist anymore.

daltonfamily --- 14 years ago -

my hubs says it has something to do with the Marine Corps needing more junior enlisted than nco's and staff nco's. He says the junior enlisted are the workerbees, and thats who they need. atleast in my hubbys job...cause he is a mechanic.

marine*wives*rock! --- 14 years ago -

My husband is a grunt, he said there is never a shortage on needing grunts. So he isnt worried about his papers not being excepted. But I kind of am. Just the unknown. He's been in 11 yrs and his EAS is up in Sept. Im already starting to prepare..just incase. :(

daltonfamily --- 14 years ago -

Because of my husbands field, its more likely than not he will be denied, even if he is a good Marine, but its not so much to me that I worry we will not be able to re-enlist, I just dont like not knowing where my life is going. things will change drastically if we have to return to civillian life. But I cannot say it would necessarily be a bad thing. I would just prefer staying in the Marine Corps for the sake of a stable income and health insurance. But If its not possible, we always have options, so im not worried. Just impatient.

Just impatient
x2 lol

First termers require boat spaces for re-enlistment but if the Marine is a careerist then 9 out of 10 times he has nothing to worry about.

If the Career Jammer is dragging his feet and putting the Marine in a tight spot he needs to utilize his chain of command and if it gets really bad request mast. I had a similar problem and as soon as I mentioned I was requestion mast to the senior enlisted advisior the CO was calling me. I hadn't been out of his office for 5 mins when I got the call.

They are still enlisting new Marines because the cut to the forces will occur through natural attrition. Marines EAS everyday. Without any effort the Corps will cut its 20-30 thousand and then some. We will always need to fill the ranks with fresh blood.

Thanks Pete :) My hubs is currently talking to his career planner now...hopefully they get this ball rolling

For sure, this is not the time to be entering the civilian sector. The job market is bad and the people who are hiring know they can pay less because people are just happy to get hired.

my husband is a careerist. Its more me worrying than him. Its just the unknown. He said he doesnt have doubt it will go through. But the hurry up and wait part sucks. Especially when he did everything he was supposed to and its just sitting on someones desk. LOL

daltonfamily --- 14 years ago -

yes we definitely know this is not the time to be leaving the military. if we have to we have to....but not before we do everything in our power to stay in. i agree with Marine*wives*, the hurry up and wait part of this really sucks!
