We broil ours on high when it's too cold out to use the grill. How long it takes depends on how you like your steak. Be sure to use a broiling pan or they won't come out right.
We have one of those grill skillet things my husband uses to make pancakes on?!
That's a griddle. lol I don't think I'd use one of those because there's nowhere for the fat to go.
Look in your pans. If your husband likes to cook, I'm sure he has a broiling pan. It's metal and looks like a cookie sheet, only deeper. There should be a thinner top piece with slits in it. Move an oven rack to the top slot and set your oven to broil. Stick the steak in there on that pan and check it with a knife after about 5 mins. Just keep it in there until it's cooked to the way you like it. Rare, med, etc.
Good luck! :)
eta: that's for a gas stove. If yours is electric, I have no idea what to do.
I didn't want to broil mine last week, or grill, so I cut it into bite sized pieces and threw it in the slow cooker with an onion and it turned out good. My husband ate it on bread as a sandwich.
When I don't use my grill then I broil them and cut it up into pieces and put it in a baked potato with cheese and bacon and butter...MMMM baked potato and steak...super good.
Jay Elle, we've been thinking about getting something like that. Do you guys use it a lot?
I never use the smooth side because we're not big breakfast people, but if we want to grill and it's either too cold or we don't have charcoal, then I use it. Haven't had a problem with it. I've used it for burgers and steaks and got really good results.
Jack Hass surprisingly when you broil it you do not need to cook it long. I would say 10 min on each side. It is what you prefer. Cut the center and check it to see if it is they way you like. I make sure it is done with little or no red for my kiddo.
