Well, my husband got his web orders today and we're moving to Cherry Point, NC!! This is his first re-enlistment and he actually got his incentive! We really wanted beaufort, but i'm just glad we got east coast! we hate california, lol! anyways, have any of you lived at cherry point? what's the best neighborhood? my husband will hopefully be picking up E5 very shortly and we have 1 child. we don't move until march though. thanks!!

We just got to Cherry Point last month. We live off base though. Houses here aren't that much to buy so we went that route this time. At least you get time to actually prepare for your move. We found out maybe about 2 months before my husband had to report in, lol.

If you go to the AMCC website you can see pics of base housing.

AWww! take me with you!!lol! We were stationed in Cherry Point for two years. At first.. it's a shock (if your from a big city) but I love the small town feel. The base isn't huge like here where it takes you 20 minutes to get to main side and there isn't a TON of people and traffic, what traffic? haha

If you want to live off base; there isn't a HUGE selection in Havelock.. but you do have a ton of choices to choose from in New Bern (we lived there for 15 months) The only down fall, it's a 20-30 minute drive to base depending where you live in New Bern. That get's old after awhile..

On Base..
We lived in Lawson Village and loved it. Two bedroom, 1.5 bath; they are some what newer, town home style and it was decent size. Oh, a small fenced in yard too :)

Nugent cove - you have your own house, 3 bedroom, 2 baths.. but they are OLD homes, however they have been building new town homes in Nugent cove which are SUPER nice! I'm not sure who qualifies for those town homes. They are getting rid of all the old homes, it's like a 4 year plan or something..

If you want to know any thing else just message me :)

i looooooved it there, and am not loving it here at all.

We lived in Slocum, had a 2 bedroom but at the time it was just me and my hubby. it was 1.5 bath, they are somewhat newer homes, they are base housing, but located off base.

the base isnt huge at all, easy to get around,no traffic!

We were stationed there for four years and we were both born & raised in North Carolina. Havelock is nothing like where I was raised. I love North Carolina but I did not like Havelock. You are near Emerald Isle which is beautiful. Raleigh is two hours away & the mall there great!

If you want to live on base
I would really try to get one of the new houses that they are building to replace Nugent Cove. I'm pretty sure they are being offered to E5-below. The next neighborhood I would recommend is Lawson Village but last I heard there is a waiting list. Since you're not moving until March you may be able to get one of those. There is also Binder Oaks.

If you're going to live off base I would rent in New Bern. There are several developments that have beautiful homes for rent within your BAH. I would not rent in Havelock.

I hope you enjoy it while you're there! Definitely make sure to see the Biltmore House & the Outer Banks while you're stationed in North Carolina. :)

We just moved from cherrypoint.. I loved it.. Just a small little town with a Homey feeling. Not busy as heck no highwAys to get on and nice people alwAys around you... Base is small and easy to get around and some things to do on base like bowling alley and restaurant and mcdonAlds and such.. Nice px and commissary.. I lived in Lawson and the houses are so big and beautiful. So much space.. Little back yards but fenced in.. They are all 2 bedroom and 1.5 baths but double sinks and walk in closets.. I miss it so much.. You do have to drive places to do some things but the ocean is near and prett.. Only thing I hated was the humidity.. Ugh but there's air conditioning in all the houses..
