I have a few small tattoos that are easily hidden but i have been thinking about getting a much larger tattoo. My family is against it. here is their reasoning..Because i am a mother of 2,married to a marine, and dont have friends with tattoos. I think its all bull..

That is bull, I have 2 huge tats on my legs, and have been thinking about getting a back piece. If you and your husband are fine with it who cares what your family thinks.
Exactly...when I was 18 I got my first tattoo and my family had a huge fight with me about. Ok little background on my family.. They are very conservitive lawyers from boston who are very much country club, high society people. I am considered the wide child of the family because at 18 after hs I left home and traveled and moved around with friends enjoying my youth until I got married and had kids. But my husband doesn't want me getting like a sleeve or anything until after he gets out because of balls and he doesn't want people thinking or talking bad about me. Even tho he has a full sleeve lol
For me I have 3 hidden that no one can see.The thought of a big one on myself makes me sick, I would NEVER do that. BUT....I have a ton of friends with very large pieces and they look beautiful. You have to own it and not care what people think. Obviously I don't have the confidence or desire. But if you do, go for it.
You should do whatever you want! Its not hurting anyone else right?
Personally I do have two small tattoos both can be visible (even in modest clothing) or covered up for a job interview. But I am pretty sure I won't get anymore. I feel like everyone has them and they just aren't *that* special anymore. Also I am concerned about how they will age as I do. That being said I am a firm believer in doing things that make you happy. Life is too short :)
I have a tattoo on my side going from right under my armpit down to my hip. I love it. Also have a small one on my wrist and another on the back of my neck.
I am happy with my tattoos and couldn't care less what other peoples opinions are about them.
Although, all are able to be hidden. Like someone said before, consider future employment or formal events like the Marine Corps Ball.
I personally dont give a crap about balls or even what my husband says. Does he get input, sure, but its my body. I also dont care what people think of me in general. Tattoos dont equal bad people.
I have a large tattoo on my left breast, and am planning to get a tat on my left arm that goes from shoulder to knuckle. If a person, male or female, wants a large tat, it's their body, their money, their choice, IMO.
Its your body! I have heard it all (excuses) but I still got mine. I have 10. Mainly small but I have a large one on my lower back and side piece on my ribs. Only advice I could give you is just be sure its something you won't regret. As long as it's meaningful to you, then no one else matters. My next project is a quarter sleeve for my boys.
I have tattoos and don't really see a problem with large tattoos. However I think it's best if they can be covered when you want them to be even if it's just with wearing a long shirt or something because some places for work don't like them. It would suck to get one that you can't cover now and one day later on miss out on a job because of it.
I have 3 tattoos and will be getting another for my little boy and all my other kids I have. And I'm putting it on my wrist. I'm gonna make a link bracelet out of their names or their birthdays for everyone to see :) go for it!!
I have a halfsleeve, a small back peice and tattoos up my side. I do not regret ANY of them :) People say, well it's going to be wrinkly and saggy when you get old. My response to that is that it will atleast be decorated wrinkly saggy skin. Oh and that I will never get old :)
i am the only one in my family with tattoos i am also a mother, Tattoos dont define who you are, so i dont know why people have a problem with it I have sleeves and i do get some crap for it but its my body and i am comfortable with the tattoos i have. Dont worry about what other people say. Just do you
It's what ever makes you happy about your body. IMO tattoos are trashy. Even the most amazing work done by the best artist in town, and I still think tattoos look horrible on women. I can only count on one hand a few guys when I like the tattoos he had. I even hate my husbands tattoos. = /
My whole family has tattoos. My sister, mom, and i can cover them easily. My little brother doesnt have any because he is only 17. Our dad is a tattoo artist. He made sure to make me think about them first. Which is smart. It is just hard to say no to free tattoos lol. I am getting one for my son when we visit home again. I love all of mine. Wouldnt change them for anything. All 3 have a meaning. My butterfly is for me flying away and becoming independant, have dream big on my hip with flowers that match my mom and sisters, and my foot says love for my hubby which also matches my best friends tattoo.
While I agree with everyone do what you want, I also think that if you are questioning your decision based on others opinions then now is not the time to get it.
I would wait until you absolutely knew that you wanted it and it didn't matter at all what they think.
This is coming from someone that has 3 tattoos 1 of which is a "visible" tattoo. I love mine... but I knew getting them my family would not appreciate them like I do, good for me that they aren't for them... haha
I say each their own but I would never get a tattoo. I think they look good on men but I think a female should be a lady....tattoos don't fit into my idea of what a female should look like.

Ditto. I just prefer a very classic look for myself. I think tattoos (especially visible ones) are gross. Different strokes for different folks.

And what SHOULD a female look like? Enlighten me please. Because to be classified as a female I'm pretty sure all you need is lady parts? I have plenty of tattoos, and never once have been told I don't look like a female because of them. So I would like to hear your imput of how I should fit the mold of your idea of what a female should look like.

I'm pretty sure she meant "feminine" and not "female." Tattoos don't fit the classic idea of what most people think of as feminine. She isn't trying to offend anyone; simply stating her opinion. Some people prefer to stick to traditional ideals. Like she said, to each their own.

Oh and I have VERY visible tattoos. And I happen to be very classy and not "gross". In fact I get complimented on my artwork all the time by men and women of all ages and different walks of life. Yes everyone has their own opinions, but "gross" shouldn't be a term to describe someone you do not know based on the fact that they have a visible tattoo. Maybe if I haven't showered in days and my hair is matted, then yes that's gross. Just saying!
