People who talk about how military families are so poor and could be on welfare...last time i checked...we arent poor...i dont get this stereotype?

MisssChefff --- 14 years ago -

how? there are so many perks...

CourtesyFlush --- 14 years ago -

Because a lot of military families don't know how to budget, and then they complain about not being paid enough.

CourtesyFlush --- 14 years ago -

Some of the newly enlisted with families are rather poor,

No they are not poor. Puhlease...I was 18 with a baby when my husband first joined. We were perfectly fine.

MisssChefff --- 14 years ago -

my hubby is an e4 and we are def not poor...

CourtesyFlush --- 14 years ago -

I consider e1-e4 w/ families to be "poor"

Good thing you don't live in another country.

MisssChefff --- 14 years ago -

Yea...we did all that and had money leftover...well we dont have kids, but we have a huge *ss apartment and lots of toys...and etc...

ALS MommaKitty --- 14 years ago -

by national poverty standards the average married family e-3 and under is in poverty.

MisssChefff --- 14 years ago -

ya if ur wife doesnt work maybe...

CourtesyFlush --- 14 years ago -

Does that include BAH? Even then that is not poverty IMO.

MisssChefff --- 14 years ago -

we just did the same thing, had an apartment with notta! but we made it work :) and we are doing a-okay! and hes an e-4

no they dont, i think thats where the misconception is.

Trace --- 14 years ago -

There was a military wife on the news last night. She was getting food from the food bank. She had 1 child. She made it seem like they go often. My husband and I got married very young and back then he made way less than Simone of the same rank does now.

I think so too. Being "poor" to me is not having a roof over my head or food to eat.

ALS MommaKitty --- 14 years ago -

well most dont when they have young kids, the cost of daycare wouldnt be worth it for the kids sake.

That is because it is offered so most take it just because it is there.

MisssChefff --- 14 years ago -

Yea...idk...I shop at Ralphs...and dont have food stamps. I got annoyed today because I was in convo and because my hubby is military they didnt believe my ring was real...it was dumb!

Someone* I hate my iPhone.. Lol

I agree. We aren't rich, but we are working on our finacial issues. We don't take handouts and I coupon to save money. Our goal zero debt.

Hollyer Than Thou --- 14 years ago -

People will always have differing financial circumstances, regardless of rank. Some need to get smart, take a budgeting class, lose the "luxuries" and deal. My Husband and I made it work just fine for our family when he was in...

Pink Taco --- 14 years ago -

Wow, really??!!

You're ignorant to think that.

We are very well off and I don't even work right now. And my husband is E-4 about to pick up. And we've been well off since E-3. Everyone is different, and has their own past debt and what not. You can't judge a family by the husband's rank. That is the most stupidest thing I have ever heard. You can have a person E-5 being poor, but because of so much debt, a new wife, new baby on the way and starting from scratch in a new home. Just an example.

Rank has nothing to do with it. And all depends on how that family handles their money. Yeah you're gonna be poor, if make a lot of money but don't know how to handle it for sh!t.

hailstorm --- 14 years ago -

You know my biggest pet peeve? When someone says something like "most stupidest". Lol. Stupidest or or most stupid would be better. Anyways, my old boss used to embarrass me all the time because she would treat me like I couldn't afford food. She bought me maternity clothes and offered to buy me food everyday. I think she thought we needed the money because I wasapregnant and working but I was just bored at home. Pissed me ooffff.

Lupe --- 14 years ago -

... i hate how some people I've met since marrying my husband have a "one-up" mentality. If it's not rank, it's rings, cars, $hit even dogs. WHO CARES!

Poor or not, it's none of my business until someone comes up to me and asks me for a loan. I have met younger families who have a nice cushion because they know how to save all the extra money the Marine makes on deployment. My hubby hasn't deployed so we both need to chip in to have a cushion. Everyone's situation is different.

All Abouts --- 14 years ago -

I dont know what your take in life but anyone that brings home less then 3000 a month it has to be living at poverty level

WELL, when I say that I mean it's more stupid than just stupid, and the most which is even more stupid... so yeah I'm allowed to say both at the same time because it IS the MOST STUPIDEST thing I have ever heard.

All Abouts --- 14 years ago -

All Abouts --- 14 years ago -
